Who are we at Our Redeemer’s United Methodist Church?

FAQ

What kind of church is Our Redeemer's?

At Our Redeemer's United Methodist Church, it is our prayer that all persons who enter through our doors will find here a place where God's Holy Spirit is a source of inspiration and strength. We pray that you will experience the warmth, caring, and faith that is essential to our development as Christians of the Church.

Will you ask me for money?

If you are our guest at Our Redeemer's, please do not feel any obligation to open your wallet. In fact we don't want anyone to give money (or do anything) out of guilt. If you wish to give, simply drop your donation into the offering basket as it is passed down the row.

Those of us who have made this our church home believe in giving back to God a portion of what he has generously given us…. with grateful and joyous hearts.

What are the services like?

We work hard to make sure your experience at Our Redeemer's is one that is relevant, welcoming and not pushy. Our services feature a mix of tradition hymns and contemporary music, and sometimes dramas or multi-media presentations that reinforce the theme of each message.

What should I wear?

Whatever makes you feel comfortable. People who attend Our Redeemer's wear everything from business wear to jeans, shorts and sandals. Feel free to leave the tie and high heels at home!

What about my kids?

We offer your children opportunities for fun and learning in Sunday School at 9 am.

We welcome children during our regular worship service at 10 am as well.

What are the procedures for a funeral?

When you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, it is comforting to have some guidance as you plan the service. For more details, click here.

How will I know where to go?

At the entrance, you'll be greeted with a smile and a handshake. These helpful folks can answer any of your questions.

Will I be singled out as a visitor?

No. We want to get to know you, but more importantly, we want you to be comfortable. We won't ask you to wear a visitors badge or stand up and introduce yourself. We want you to remain as anonymous as you want to be.

The only thing we ask guests to do is fill out the information you're comfortable with in the Attendance Book that is passed out at the beginning of each service. This lets us know you visited with us.

What should I do after the service?

Please join us for refreshments and fellowship immediately following the worship service in the narthex.

Prior to leaving, check out the Visitor's Table to pick up an information packet to further learn and explore the ministries, missions, and opportunities Our Redeemer’s has to offer. Whether you're just starting to ask questions about God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, we hope you'll find a home here at Our Redeemer's United Methodist Church.

What's the music like?

We have a regular choir and a worship team that lead us using a variety of music styles. Our musicians and singers are first-rate and do a great job of leading us in worship.

Can I have my wedding here?

Yes! To learn the details, contact the office.

What is required for a baptism?

Baptism is a symbol of new life in Christ and a sign of God's love. Through baptism we are joined with the church and with Christians everywhere. Persons of any age can be baptized. For more information, click here.

What does it mean to be a Connectional Church?

Our Redeemer’s is part of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church is a global church, sharing a common vision and desire to spread God’s Word, while allowing individual churches to meet the needs of their local congregations. Being part of a larger church means being able to share resources for education, missions, disaster relief, and much more, as well as providing a system of guidance in church governance and teachings.
