History
Our Redeemer’s United Methodist church held its first service on Palm Sunday, March 22, 1964. Schaumburg was a new suburb, its population growing from 986 in 1960 to 18,724 in 1970. Services were soon held in The Barn in Schaumburg, which was also the courthouse and jail. The building we use today was completed in 1972 and has been expanded and remodeled several times since then. Over the years, notable changes included adding an education wing, expanding and paving the parking lot, opening a day care center, and adding a fellowship hall. The sanctuary floor was raised, and the pulpit moved. A parsonage was purchased to provide housing to the pastor.
Our church navigated Covid challenges, along with the rest of the country. Services were online, even including choir collaborations. We moved on to outdoor services, and still sometimes have a few in the summer.
